Dassin, Jules
(December 18, 191I, Middletown, Connecticut, USA-March 31, 2008, Athens, Greece)
   The son of a Russian-Jewish immigrant, he grew up in New York and attended high school in the Bronx. He studied dramatic art in Europe and then made his acting debut in 1936 with New York's Yiddish Theater. After writing radio plays, he briefly was assistant director (1940 They Know What They Wanted, Garson Kanin, USA; 1941 Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Alfred Hitchcock, USA) and soon directed his first movie for RKO.
