   An actor at the Odéon and at André Antoine's Théâ­tre Libre, he was hired by Paul Gavault, the artistic director of Le Film d'Art, in 1908 and played in a few films (1909 La Grande Bretèche / USA: The Great Breach, short, André Calmettes; 1910 L'EcharpeL short, André Calmettes, Henri Desfontaines; 191I Le Pardon, short, André Calmettes; Jésus de Naza­reth, short, André Calmettes, Henri Desfontaines; La Fin d'un Joueur, short, André Calmettes, Henri Etiévant). A film director since 1908, he became an artistic director of Le Film d'Art in 1913 and helped Abel Gance start filming one of his screenplays (L'Infirmière, 1914).
