   His parents owned a business selling general sup­plies for cinema in Marseille. One of their clients, a film journalist, offered him a job as administrator of theater tours, a job he gave up after meeting actress Ginette Leclerc. She recommended him to a director, and he entered films as an assistant director (1947 Nuit sans Fin, Jacques Séverac; 1948 Sergil et le Dicta­teur, Jacques Daroy; 1949 Le Droit de l'Enfant, Jacques Daroy; La Passagère, Jacques Daroy; 1950 La Maison du Printemps, Jacques Daroy; 1951 Porte d'Orient, Jacques Daroy; 1952 Sergil chez les Filles, Jacques Daroy; 1953 Tourbillon, Alfred Rode; 1956 Trois de la Canebière, Mau­rice de Canonge; 1957 Trois de la Marine, Maurice de Canonge; 1958 Arènes joyeuses, Maurice de Canonge, La Fille de Feu, Alfred Rode; 1959 Visa pour l'Enfer / Passeport pour l'Enfer, Alfred Rode).
