   The son of actress Renée Saint-Cyr (1904-2004), he studied law before entering films as a trainee assis­tant manager (1945 La Route du Bagne, Léon Mathot). He successively was a trainee assistant director (1949 Tous les Deux, Louis Cuny; 1950 Cartouche, Roi de Paris, Guillaume Radot, shot in 1948), second assis­tant director (1950 Le Trésor de Cantenac / Un Miracle, Sacha Guitry; Fusillé à l'Aube / USA: Secret Document Vienna, also actor, André Haguet; 1951 Deburau, Sacha Guitry; Adhémar ou le Jouet de la Fatalité, Fernandel), first assistant director (1951 Capitaine Ardant, also actor, André Zwobada; 1952 L'Amour n'est pas un Péché, Claude Cariven; Cent Ans de Sport, documentary, Gilbert Prouteau; 1953 Horizons sans Fin, Jean Dréville; 1954 Le Chevalier de la Nuit / USA: Knights of the Night, Robert Darène; Les Corsaires du Bois de Boulogne, Norbert Carbonnaux; 1955 Les Chiffonniers d'Emmaus, Robert Darène; 1956 Goubbiah, mon Amour / Goubbiah / Fuga nel sole, also actor, Robert Darène, France / Italy; Courte-Tête / US TV: Photo Finish, Nor­bert Carbonnaux; 1957 C'est une Fille de Paname, Henry Lepage; 1958 Le Temps des Œufs durs, Norbert Carbonnaux; La Bigorne, Caporal de France, Robert Darène; 1959 Letter to Loretta, TV, episode "The Road", Rudolph Maté, USA), technical adviser (1957 Une Nuit au Moulin-Rouge, Jean-Claude Roy), and fi­nally director. He also supervised the shooting of OK Patron! (Claude Vital, 1974), co-wrote the screenplay of a TV movie (1995 Entre ces Mains-là, Arnaud Sélig-nac), and appeared as himself in several documenta­ries (1974 Histoire du Cinéma français par ceux qui l'ont fait, documentary, Armand Panigel; 1990 Ne m'oubliez pas: Hommage à Bernard Blier, documentary, Mathias Ledoux; 1996 Bernard Blier, documentary, Dominique Cazenave, Doug Headline; 1999 Francis Blanche, à la Vie à l'Amour, documentary, short, Jorge Dana; 2002 Michel Audiard et le Mystère du Triangle des Bermudes, documentary, François-Régis Jeanne, Stéphane Roux; 2003 Blier by Nice, documentary, Jean-Jacques Ber­nard; La Trilogie des "Monocle" also co-screenwriter, David Maltese; 2004 Les Cascadeurs, documentary, Laurent Germain-Maury; 2005 Pierre Richard, l'Art du Déséquilibre, documentary, Jérémie Imbert, Yann Mar­chet). In 2005, he published his autobiography (On aura tout vu, Flammarion). The previous year, he wrote the screenplay of a comic book (On achève bien les Cons!, Editions Soleil).
