Jaeckin, Just

(August 8, 1940, Vichy, Allier, France - )

   The son of a Dutch father and an English mother, he spent his first five years in England. Having been dis­charged from military service in the Cinematographic Service of the army, he studied interior design and ar­chitecture in Paris before becoming one of the busi­est fashion photographers of the l960s. His collabo­rations with Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and Elle led him to shoot subjects for Dim Dam Dom (1965-1968), a TV show for women that was a mirror of l960s France. His first directing effort, Emmanuelle, remains one of the greatest box office hits. He directed more than 300 commercials. He is also a sculptor who co-owns an art gallery with his wife Anne. In 2006, he pub­lished his autobiography (Tout Just: Souvenirs, Editions du Rocher, Monaco).
