- (August 8, 1940, Vichy, Allier, France - )The son of a Dutch father and an English mother, he spent his first five years in England. Having been discharged from military service in the Cinematographic Service of the army, he studied interior design and architecture in Paris before becoming one of the busiest fashion photographers of the l960s. His collaborations with Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and Elle led him to shoot subjects for Dim Dam Dom (1965-1968), a TV show for women that was a mirror of l960s France. His first directing effort, Emmanuelle, remains one of the greatest box office hits. He directed more than 300 commercials. He is also a sculptor who co-owns an art gallery with his wife Anne.
